About Cha-am

Cha-am is a beautiful sleepy sea side town located about 165km to the south of Bangkok in the gulf of Thailand.

Cha-am is in the Province of Petcgburi and Hau-Hin is in the Province. Prachuabkirikhan and they are both popular seaside resorts to the south of Bangkok. Despite their locations being in different provinces it only takes about 20 minutes to drive between the two.

Years ago when Hau-Hin was a booming town, Cha-am was unknown to outsiders, as the high ranks of society looked for a new place to relax, and the beauty of Cha-am was discovered, today Hau- Hin and Cha-am are still among the most tourists attraction in Thailand. Most Thai people will often talk about the two towns being as one Hau-Hin is in fact the oldest beach resort in the country and is still as popular as ever.

Many Cha Am hotels lead directly onto the resort’s stunning sandy beach looking out onto the Gulf of Thailand. This is the perfect beach setting for the family to relax, swim, sunbathe and partake in a wide variety of water sports. Cha Am began as a fishing village and retains some of its traditional architecture and charm. It is known to be quieter and more relaxed than some of Thailand’s bustling larger resorts.

From Cha Am it is easy to explore southern Thailand’s many interesting sights. Along the Western Gulf coastline, particularly heading south towards Prachuap Khiri Khan province, there are many sheltered coves and traditional fishing villages to visit. Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, which spans 60 sq km, boasts a mountainous landscape, lush vegetation, waterfalls, caves and mangroves running down to beautiful beaches.

Cha am is fast becoming the next big holiday destination in Thailand. Located only 165 kms from Bangkok, it is easily accessible by road in just under 2.5 hours. The resort town of Hua Hin is only a further 30 kms away.

The authorities have decided to make Cha Am into a major tourist destination and are investing huge amounts of resources and money to upgrade it to the same standard as any other popular holiday destination in the world.

The beaches are absolutely beautiful and there are miles and miles of beach-front land available which is being developed by some of the most prominent business men in Thailand.

Future projects under study are the construction of a multi million dollar Fun Park , similar to the world renowned Universal Studios and an under water aquarium are soon to become a reality. The authorities have also approved upgrading all the existing hotels and resorts and have approved construction of many new ones.

Hau-Hin is in fact the oldest beach resort in the country and is still aspopular as ever.

The railway station was constructed in the reign of King Rama VI (1910 to 1925 and in 1926 the Summer palace of King Rama VIII transformed this quiet fishing village into the resort town popular among those from high society.

If you want to drive to Cha-am it is about 165km from Bangkok Take the highway 35 then left on highway 4 to Cha-am.

Go by coach To go by coach there is a 4 daily services bewteen Bangkok and Cha-am from Bangkok Southern Terminal.

Go by train By train, they leave Bangkok daily,but they can go the long way round so its best to check or you could be on the train for up to 6 hours.

Go by plane By plane a domestic flight from Bangkok to Hua-Hin (see your travel agent).

Golfers Paradise

A golf holiday is not far from Bangkok in Hua Hin, the historic coastal retreat of the Royal Family. With a 27-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, tennis, squash, snooker and a free form swimming pool, is one of many golf courses in this area the sports enthusiast can easily occupy their time. After a day scouring the golf course, the in-house spa is the perfect way to unwind before the evening meal to be taken either at the on site restaurant or one of Hua Hin’s many revered sea food eateries.

If you like city shopping there is some of the most amazing and largest shopping centre’s and markets you might ever see 2 hours away in Bangkok at prices you won’t believe. In Cha-am we have a fishing lake located on the out side of the town it’s a 5 minute drive to beautiful tranquil location. The lake is very well stocked with a variety of fish, everything is there for you to have a relaxing days fishing; rod hire a small shop for soft drinks and a restaurant that will cook one or two of your catches for your lunch and prepare the rest of your catch for you to take away with you.

Sea Fishing

It is possible to arrange fishing trips yourself directly with local fishermen who’ll take you out on their boats for a few hours. Prices, as always, are negotiable, but as a general rule of thumb you can expect to pay 500 baht per person for a group of 6. Tackle, bait and light refreshments will normally be included in the price. A trip will last around 5-6 hours, depending on tides. This can be a fun way to organise your day, although for trips further out to sea, it is probably better to use the services of a recognised boat operator.
